The Jefferson J-Hawks are moving on. Behind a gritty defensive performance and a game-changing interception return, the J-Hawks defeated Jacobs 12–7 on Monday night in the IHSA Regional Quarterfinals at Wyeth Stadium.

After falling behind 7–0 in the first half, Jefferson swung the momentum early in the third quarter when Dereona Edison picked off a Jacobs pass and raced 86 yards for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to one. The J-Hawk defense tightened from there, forcing multiple turnovers on downs to keep the game within reach.

Jefferson took the lead in the fourth quarter with a hard-earned touchdown drive midway through the period. Despite a missed extra point, the J-Hawks’ defense held firm down the stretch, stopping Jacobs twice in the final minutes — including a key fourth-down stand with just over a minute to play.

With the victory, Jefferson advances to face Round Lake in the IHSA Regional Semifinal tomorrow.

It was a complete team effort for the red and gold — a showcase of composure, toughness, and relentless defense as the J-Hawks continue their postseason run.
