Rockford, Ill. — The Jefferson J-Hawks capped off Senior Day with a statement victory, defeating Harvard 5–3 Saturday afternoon at Swanson Stadium.
The J-Hawks jumped ahead early when Jayden Vazquez scored off a corner from Arron Devencia just four minutes into the match. Harvard briefly took control midway through the first half, converting a penalty kick to tie the game before adding another goal to go up 2–1.
Jefferson’s response was immediate and dominant. Eduardo Mendoza scored to even the match, and Jayden Miranda followed with a goal from a low cross by Devencia to reclaim the lead. Just before halftime, Devencia connected with Mendoza again, giving the J-Hawks a 4–2 advantage at the break.
Harvard pulled within one midway through the second half, but Mendoza completed his hat trick minutes later to seal the 5–3 win. The Jefferson defense held firm in the closing minutes, keeping the Hornets off the board to close out the match.
The victory capped a strong Senior Day performance, highlighted by Mendoza’s three goals and Devencia’s three assists, as Jefferson continued to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
