The Jefferson J-Hawks put together a complete performance Tuesday night, rolling past East 59–26 in a NIC-10 varsity girls basketball matchup at Jefferson, fueled by balanced scoring, relentless defense, and an energetic home crowd.
Before the opening tip, the night began with a special moment as senior Abbie Bracius was honored as the all-time leading scorer in Jefferson girls basketball history, setting the tone for an emotional and focused evening for the J-Hawks.
Jefferson wasted no time taking control. The J-Hawks exploded out of the gate, jumping to a commanding 29–2 lead after the first quarter, using defensive pressure and quick ball movement to overwhelm East early. Senior Layni Marchini led the charge early, knocking down three triples in the opening period as Jefferson built a double-digit cushion almost immediately.
The momentum continued into the second quarter, with the J-Hawks extending the lead to 39–11 at halftime. Jefferson’s defense limited East to tough looks while the offense continued to share the ball and capitalize in transition. The energy in the gym lifted even higher when the J-Hawks Band arrived, adding to the home-court advantage.
Coming out of the locker room, Jefferson showed no signs of letting up. The J-Hawks pushed the lead to 55–21 after three quarters, maintaining their intensity on both ends of the floor and controlling the tempo throughout the night.
In the final quarter, Jefferson closed out the game efficiently to secure the 59–26 victory. Bracius led all scorers with 17 points on a memorable night, while Marchini finished with 15 points. Alanna Morehead was the only other J-Hawk in double figures, providing a steady scoring presence as part of Jefferson’s balanced attack.
It was a statement win for the J-Hawks—one that combined history, teamwork, and dominance from start to finish. 🟥🟨
